It's weird how it all works out. Originally when I applied to go abroad, I didn't get in. I was sad for a little bit but I got over it. Then, about two weeks later, I get an email saying I got into the University of Melbourne program off of the waitlist, and I needed to decide in a week if I was going. I was torn. I couldn't decide what to do. I just started my internship for these guys:
at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, and it was going well. They wanted to keep me for the next semester too. I also found out that one of my good buddies Mark, aka Coach, also got in off of the waitlist into the Melbourne program. Here's a picture of us painting up before a game he's the short guy on the left. We have our serious faces on. So bromantic.
We both had our hearts set on Europe and didn't know what to do. I called him one day and basically convinced him that Australia is the coolest place in the world, and we both decided to go. I let the guys at Morgan Stanley know, and they were cool with it and happy for me, which made me feel better. It was as easy as that.At first, I was nervous that I made the wrong decision. Don't get me wrong, USC is an amazing school, but lets be real now, it's AUSTRALIA. Plus while it's winter here it'll be summer there. Who can hate that?
This past week has been really hectic. Between finals and figuring out the logistics of my trip and packing up my room, I haven't been able to sleep very much the past three days. I finally got my housing confirmed today. I will be staying in a two bedroom apartment at this complex called RMIT Village, which is geared towards international students. It's a few blocks away from the university. Here is a teaser picture from their website, but I'll be sure to take pictures of my actual room once I get there.
Also, while I'm in Australia I think I'm going to try a little experiment of growing a mustache. I want to try and post on my blog at least once a week, and I'll make sure to include a head shot with every post so everyone can watch the progression. I'll be like a real life chia pet.
I think that's all for now. I probably won't be updating this until I get down under, but I can't wait till I leave!
